Cross Country

OCTOBER 2024 - 
As the Cross Country season comes to an end we want to thank all the athletes who participated this year, your hard work and dedication was evident and we are extremely proud of each of you. On October 3rd our 4 athletes that advanced to district headed off to Dixon and did extremely well and each of them improved on their times from pre-districts.
  • Novice Girls - Hannah D. finished 3rd out of 20 with a time of 10:03.
  • Novice Boys - Angus W. finished 2nd out of 20 with a time of 8:49 and Eirik T. finished 10th out of 20 with a time of 9:29.
  • Senior Girls - Hailee W. finished 1st out of 12 with a time 18:59, giving her the HCAA District Championship three years in a row. Way too go Hailee!
 
On October 12th Hailee represented Horizon School Division at the provincial Cross Country meet in Dixon. Out of 110 participants Hailee placed 17th with a time of 18:40.
We look forward to next season and hope to see everyone back and excited to run!
 
 
 
SEPTEMBER 2024 - 
This year we have participants ranging from grade 5 to grade 12, and they have already started practicing over the lunch break. The younger athletes will be running 2km or 3km - depending on their birthdate, while the senior athletes will be running 4km.
Dates are as follows:
  • Pre – Districts: Wed. Sept. 25 @ Dixon (18 km NW of Humboldt)
(*The top 10 athletes in each category will advance to districts.)
  • Districts: Thurs. Oct. 3 @ Dixon
  • Provincials: Sat. Oct. 12 @ Dixon

Our cross country team this year consists of 7 athletes:Hailee W. -Senior (4 km), Ethan H. - Senior (4 km), Charlie T. - Atom (2 km), Angus W. -Novice (2 km), Eirik T. - Novice (2 km), Greyson F. - Novice (2 km) and Hannah D. - Novice (2 km).
They have been training hard over their lunch breaks this past month and each of them have shown great improvement from the start of the season. On September 25th they headed off to pre-districts in Dixon (NW of Humboldt) for their first competition. Everyone put forth their best effort and battled the extreme heat and represented themselves and the school proudly.
Novice Girls - Hannah finished 4th out of 26 with a time of 11:04.
 
Novice Boys - Angus finished 2nd out of 45 with a time of 9:03, Eirik finished 10th out 45 with a time of 9:40 and Greyson finished 23rd out of 45 with a time of 11:57.
 
Atom Boys - Charlie finished 20th out of 36 with a time of 11:16.
 
Senior Boys - Ethan placed 5th out 5 with a time of 40:00.
 
Senior Girls - Hailee finished 1st out of 8 with a time of 19:58.

I’m excited to announce that 4 of our 7 athletes have advanced to districts which are being held on October 3rd in Dixon. Athletes that are advancing are: Angus & Eirik in Novice Boys, Hannah in Novice Girls, and Hailee in Senior Girls. Good luck to all our athletes at their next competition.

October 2017 - 

Congratulations to our cross-country runners who placed in the top 10 in 3 of the 4 age categories at Districts.  Gracie Reynoldson finished 7th out of 20 in Pee Wee Girls (3 km – 14:27).  Kiana Ehmann finished 6th out of 20 in Bantam Girls (3 km – 15:07).  Anthony Rennie finished in the back half of the top 20 in Junior Boys.  Aydon Burks finished 5th in Midget Boys after a sprint to the finish.  His 5th place finish qualified him to go to Provincials in Turtleford.  Congrats on a great effort by all our runners!

 

Congratulation to Aydon Burks who ran very well at Provincials on Saturday, October 14th.  He finished 37th out of 150 runners.  Way to go Aydon!  Thank you to Mrs. Burks for getting Aydon to Turtleford.

September 2017 – We had seven runners from our school travel to Wynyard for pre-districts.  It was one of our best results in years.  Conner Brooks, Cale Robertson and Ryan Burks ran with eighty other runners in Wee Pee Boys finishing in the bottom half.  Anthony Rennie ran in Senior Boys and qualified in 8th position.  Gracie Reynoldson finished 5th in Pee Wee Girls, while Aydon Burks finished 3rd in Midget Boys.  Our best result of the day was a 1st place finish by Kiana Ehmann in Bantam Girls!  Way to go Kiana!  Congratulations on a great effort by all our runners.
